Britain’s favourite yacht race takes place on Saturday, 30 June and everyone will be hoping the weather gods will look kindly on us this year; a good racing breeze and sunshine would be very welcome after the strong winds and rough seas of 2011!
The annual J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race is organised by the famous Island Sailing Club in Cowes.
The one-day yacht race westabout around the Isle of Wight regularly attracts over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors making it the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK! Are you taking part this year?
The Round the Island Race is a super chance to watch some of the world's top sailors racing against families, and first timers - a battle on the water between novice and pro sailors and it's not always the pros who do best by a long shot!

Even for first timers, the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race course couldn't be easier.
The 50 nautical mile course round the Isle of Wight starts on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes and the fleet heads off west towards Yarmouth. Boats pass The Needles Lighthouse, sail along the southwest coast of the Island to St Catherine’s Point and then through Sandown Bay and around the Bembridge Ledge buoy.
Finally, the fleet races either side of No Man’s Land Fort and across Osborne Bay to finish back in Cowes.
Not racing? Then come along to watch!
The best observation points on the Isle of Wight are:
Cowes for the starts, then Sconce Point at Fort Victoria, The Needles, Chilten Chine, St. Catherine's Point, Ventnor, Bonchurch, Culver Down, and finally Ryde Pier.
