Aberdeen Cowes Week Regatta 2011

Undoubtedly the highlight of the UK's sailing season, AAM Cowes Week has also been a central part of the UK's sporting summer season since 1826. With up to 40 races a day for around 1000 boats it is the largest and most famous sailing regatta in the world.

Traditionally, Cowes Week takes place after Glorious Goodwood and before the Glorious Twelfth (the first day of the grouse shooting season). Over the years it has attracted British and foreign royalty, the nobility, the rich and the famous. The event itself lasts for eight days and takes place each August in the Solent waters around Cowes harbour.

In 2010 Cowes Week was one of the most thrilling yet. The changeable weather conditions made for a week of fast-paced and exciting racing for the 8,000 sailors who were competing. This year Cowes Week will be held between 6th - 13th August 2011.

Cowes Week Limited, the organisation that oversees the smooth running of event, produce an excellent first-timer's guide to Cowes Week that includes an excellent list of frequently asked questions.
