LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS No. 47(T) of 2024

Cowes Chain Ferry – Out of Service from 24 September

Notice is hereby given that the Cowes Chain Ferry will be out of service to undergo chain replacement and repair operations.

The Cowes Chain Ferry will be taken out of service at 0900hrs on 24 Sept in order to replace the main chains and for some other minor works.

It is planned that for a short period over Low Water (1030hrs) on 25 Sept, the river will be closed in the vicinity of the Chain Ferry and Harbour Patrol vessels will stop any vessels attempting to transit this area.

The Chain Ferry will be moored on the East Slipway but may transit to the West during test periods. The Chain Ferry will continue to be manned and can be hailed on VHF Ch 69 for any concerned traffic.

A passenger only service will be in place between East Cowes and Cowes for the duration of the work.

It is planned that the Chain Ferry will re-enter service on 28 Sept.

All mariners are advised to navigate in the area with caution, and to avoid creating wash in the vicinity of the Cowes Chain Ferry.

This local notice to mariners will remain in force until further notice.
