Local Notice to Mariners No. 51(T) of 2025

Round the island Training Swim – Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 July 2025

Notice is hereby given that a round the island training swim will be taking place on Saturday 12 July to Sunday 13 July 2025.

This will be a 2-stage swim event with a single swimmer in the water. This swimmer will be accompanied by a safety kayaker, a lead support vessel ‘S/Y Tapestry’, a 12.5m LOA sailing vessel, and ‘Cornerstone’ a 5.5m LOA RHIB. The support vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch11, Ch12, Ch16, Ch68 and Ch69 throughout.

The first swim will commence around 1130 in the vicinity of Sea View Yacht Club and proceeding west towards the Needles. The swim will complete east of the Needles in Scratchell’s Bay around 1800. 

The second swim will commence around 2200 from a position approximately 1.2 – 1.5NM SW of Bembridge Ledge in Whitecliff Bay. The swim will head toward Bembridge for approximately 3NM to finish by 0100 close to Seaview. 

Approach to Cowes Harbour

The swimmer will cross the entrance of Cowes Harbour between approximately 1430 and 1530 on Saturday 12 July. Prior to crossing the entrance, the ‘S/Y Tapestry’ will broadcast a safety message on VHF Ch69. When crossing the entrance of Cowes Harbour, the swimmer will be accompanied by HM1.

Mariners are requested to keep a good lookout and pass well clear of the swimmer and the support vessels. 

This local notice to mariners will self-cancel at 2359 on 14 July 2025.
