Kingston Boatyard has a range of services and storage facilities

Kingston Boatyard in East Cowes is conveniently placed for coming ashore at any time of the year. The yard has extensive facilities for vessels from the easily trailered to yachts and motorboats up to 40 tonnes GW. Water and electricity are available throughout the site. Here you’ll also find a chandlery and self-storage facility.

One of the largest boatyards on the River Medina

The Kingston Boatyard is accessed from Kingston Road in East Cowes, a two minute drive or 10 minute walk from Cowes Floating Bridge in East Cowes, and just 3 minutes’ drive from the Red Funnel East Cowes vehicle ferry terminal.

Approaching from the water, Kingston Wharf is just south of Cowes Floating Bridge and sits just in front of the two imposing power station chimneys.

As an open boatyard, we are happy for you to do your own work, engage a contractor or ask the team at Kingston to carry out the work. Flexibility is key at this extensive facility for boat storage, maintenance and chandlery supplies.

Kingston Boatyard has lifting and storage facilities for boats up to 25m and 40 tonnes GW, including multihulls at all states of tide. Once a vessel has been lifted, we have a custom wash-down facility with high-pressure cleaning and sump drainage system. Your boat can then be transferred within the yard using the 40-tonne hoist or a self-propelled boat mover which has a maximum lift capacity of 30 tonnes.

On arrival by boat, we have limited availability of waiting pontoons and by road, car parking is available. The road gates are closed outside normal working hours and a code is required for access.

The 50-tonne all-tide boat hoist can accommodate vessels up to 22.5m length, 564m breadth, a draught of 2.3m and a hoist dock depth of 1.8m at low water springs

Time Expired Pyrotechnic (TEP) Facility

Safe Disposal of Time Expired Pyrotechnics (TEPs)

Cowes Harbour Commission is pleased to announce that we are now the Isle of Wight’s first and only approved Time Expired Pyrotechnic (TEP) Reception Facility, providing a responsible way to dispose out-of-date marine flares.

Customers can now bring their expired pyrotechnics to Kingston Boatyard for safe collection and disposal. This service is open to all customers, not just Isle of Wight residents. All items received will be transported for secure and environmentally responsible disposal.

Drop-off details:

Location: Kingston Boatyard Office
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 0900-1500 (excluding the Christmas period)
Fee: Small charge – £6.00 per item
Limit: No limit on the number of flares accepted

Since HM Coastguard ceased accepting expired flares, CHC’s new TEP Reception Facility helps fill a vital safety and environmental gap. We strongly encourage all boat owners to use this service to ensure flares are disposed of safely and responsibly.
