Dredging works in the vicinity of the Folly Inn

Notice is hereby given that small scale dredging works will commence in the vicinity of the Folly Inn, with disposal at Werrar Creek in Newport Harbour.

Small-scale dredging operations are planned to commence on Monday 05 January 2026. This will take place at Pinkmead Jetty and will be deposited in Werrar Creek for Phase 2 of a trial saltmarsh restoration project.

A shallow draft vessel and excavator will be in use around Pinkmead jetty and the mouth of Werrar Creek. A long reach excavator and a dredge hopper will be in situ on a NATO pontoon with spud legs and navigation marker.

Works will only take place during daylight hours (08:00 – 18:00hrs). The dredging craft will be displaying the correct lights and shapes for the operation and will be listening on VHF 69 for any concerned traffic.

The operation is expected to continue for several weeks, depending upon weather conditions.

All mariners are advised to:

  • Keep well clear of the dredging operations, where practicable, and in all cases navigate with caution when passing an area where dredging operations are in progress.
  • Comply with the Cowes Harbour General Directions – Speed Limit 6 knots and No Wash.
  • Maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch. 69 when underway within Cowes area of Jurisdiction.

This local notice to mariners will remain in force until further notice.
