UKORPA Round the Island Powerboat Race

Local Notice to Mariners No. 11(T) of 2026

Notice is hereby given jointly by the King’s Harbour Master Portsmouth, the ABP Southampton Harbour Master and the Cowes Harbour Master that the United Kingdom Offshore Power Boat Racing Association (UKOPRA) will race Round the Isle of Wight on Saturday 16 May 2026.

Approximately 35 power boats are expected to take part in the race. Competitors are expected to be travelling in excess of 50 knots. A full description of the race and its participants is available from the UKOPRA website (https://www.ukopra.co.uk). The following summary is provided for information purposes:

  • Vessels are expected to muster in the vicinity of East Lepe buoy in the Western Solent from 1130.
  • There will be two start times of 1200 and 1210.
  • The anti-clockwise course around the Isle of Wight will be from the Eastern Solent, turning points for the race include Sconce Buoy, Bridge Buoy, St Catherine’s Point, West Princessa, Bembridge Ledge Buoy, No Mans Land Fort, North Sturbridge Buoy, South Ryde Middle Buoy and Prince Consort Buoy, finishing at East Lepe.  
  • The race is expected to complete by 1430.

The fleet will be escorted by marshal vessels which will be identified by flying UKOPRA logo flags.

Competitors and race officials will be listening on VHF channel 37/M1 and 12.

All event and race vessels will adhere to local byelaws, General Directions and speed restrictions when transiting to and from the racecourse.

This local notice to mariners will self-cancel at 2359 on 17 May 2026.
