Cowes Harbour Commission Reaffirms Support for Yachting and Powerboat Events

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) is proud to reaffirm its long-standing commitment to supporting and promoting yachting and powerboat events in Cowes, recognising their vital importance to the town’s maritime heritage, community life and local economy.

For many years, CHC has worked closely with event and regatta organisers to help deliver a diverse and successful programme of sailing and powerboat events. The Commission recognises the significant planning, operational and financial commitment required to stage events of this scale and remains focused on ensuring Cowes continues to be an accessible, attractive and well-supported destination for participants and organisers alike.

As part of this ongoing commitment, Cowes Harbour Commission is pleased to announce that from 2026 it will be reducing costs for visiting vessels attending the major regattas for which Cowes is internationally renowned.

Yachting and powerboat events make a significant contribution to Cowes, attracting visitors, supporting local marine services, hospitality and retail businesses, and reinforcing the town’s reputation as a world-class centre for maritime activity. CHC hopes that this change will encourage increased participation in established events while also helping to attract new sailing and powerboat events to the town.

Gary Hall, Chief Executive of Cowes Harbour Commission, said:

Cowes has a unique maritime heritage and an international reputation for hosting outstanding yachting and powerboat events. We recognise the commitment made by organisers, competitors and visiting crews, and this decision reflects our desire to actively support that community. By reducing costs for visiting vessels, we aim to encourage greater participation, support local businesses and ensure Cowes continues to thrive as a premier destination for maritime events.”

By continuing to work collaboratively with event organisers, harbour users and local stakeholders, Cowes Harbour Commission remains committed to supporting the long-term success of yachting, powerboating and maritime events in Cowes.
