CHC at Cowes marine careers fair

Last month, Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) took part in the Marine Careers Fair organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes Castle, exhibiting alongside over 30 well-known marine industry businesses and training facilities including UKSA, SeaSafe, British Marine and Carnival UK.

Jon Kidd, CHC’s Assistant Harbour Master was there to promote the new Port Operative Apprenticeship at Shepards Wharf Marina, and was joined by a raft of guest speakers and experts from a wide range of maritime industries, working to enthuse and steer young people towards a career at sea.

Jon said: “The careers fair was a real success for us and we spoke to local students, families and individuals from all over the Island. Our Port Operative Apprenticeship opportunity received a healthy number of applicants and these were shortlisted to six potential candidates. Interviews took place last week and the successful applicant is due to be confirmed in the next few days and will start at Shepards in early November.”
