Memories of Cowes Week 2016

The title of overall Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week winner went again to Adam Gosling’s JPK10.80 Yes!, which finished the regatta counting only first places in IRC Class 3 to earn Gosling a class win and also victory in Black Group overall. Nigel Grogan’s Rehydrated gave a performance that saw him win the Squib class with a day to spare as well as White Group overall.

As we contemplate the approach of autumn, let us tarry awhile and enjoy our memories of Cowes Week 2016 with a host of regatta photos and a poem from our very own in-house poet!

There were winners, losers and some in between,
Spray blasted sailors landed feeling serene.
At the end of each day a victor arose,
With class leading skippers striking the pose.

As dusk settled down a party awoke,
Beer, wine and gin all vanished in smoke.
With music echoing off every mast,
A challenge was felt; who’d be the last?

Arrival of dawn saw another great day,
Sun beating down, no sign of the grey.
The wind and the tide, gauntlet laid down
The racers set off from old Cowes town.

Red Arrows, Typhoon and fireworks a-glow,
Brought us near to the end, just one day to go.
The final hurrah went by in a blur,
A fantastic week; I hope you concur?

As the wash settles after Cowes Week Regatta,
And noise dies away of the racing chatter.
The locals return to their daily routine,
The streets and the yards endure a deep clean.
