New Classic regatta at Cowes

The inaugural Cowes Spring Classics, a regatta for wooden classic yachts designed before 1970, is to take place from 11th-13th May 2018 at Shepards Wharf Marina. This new regatta is being supported by Destination Cowes, which is a partnership of key local organisations working to encourage new events and visitors to Cowes.

It is hoped the Cowes Spring Classics regatta will be a great season-opener and a welcome addition to existing classic regattas held on the Solent. Although competitors are expected to take the racing seriously, it will very much be a relaxed regatta conducted in a gentlemanly manner in keeping with the age of the yachts. Organisers aim to make the social side and the appreciation of the history of the competing yachts as important as the racing.

The regatta is open to a wide range of classic yachts and hopes to attract entries from Cruisers and Cruiser Racers, affordable Classic Cruisers, Gaff Rigged Yachts and Pilot Cutters, Day Boats and Raters, Classic Metre Yachts plus modern Spirit of Tradition yachts. Non-racing yachts and motorboats are also welcome. Racing will be conducted by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in Cowes with shoreline starts, providing a fantastic sight for spectators.

Entry for the regatta is now open and more information can be found on the event website: www.cowesspringclassics.com.
